Sound

We have gathered some sound for our animation, the jet flying past:

http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=40625

This clip has been modified in Soundbooth with effects like distortion and pitch change, and been clipped with envelopes to emphasise the stark velocity of the plane in passing. We have four or so processed versions of this clip, and the original to choose between.

Other sound has been made, again sourced from freesound.org to enhance the animation. Such sound featured is a SFX for the lettering falling from the sky and landing, and bricks collapsing as the rayfire tool is shown onscreen.

A new incorporation to our idea

A little feature that has surfaced is to make a little globe or 'world' for our models to reside on.

The idea originated from the advertisement below.

Another idea that may have helped bring this idea about is the incredibly popular Little Big Planet PS3 game that also incorporates little worlds.

Initial Rayfire Test: Church

This is our initial test of constructing / deconstructing the Church. After looking at the initial test we will look to fragment the model into more objects. This initial test was set to around 250 fragments.

Our Agreed Idea

We are each making a model;

Lee - Chelmsford Cathedral
Phil - Southend Pier
Graham - Hedingham Castle
Arnas - RSPB Environment & Education Centre

Each of these models will be constructed from rubble, reversing the effects of the rayfire tool. The environment is going to appear from out of the ground or fade in, and the model will then crumble away to form the next model.

THE ANIMATION (TIMELINE)

Introduction - Static ESSEX sign crumbles into rubble. (with possible rotatary camera angle).

Model 1 Forms - Model #1 forms from the rubble made from the Essex Sign.

Model 1 Deconstructs - Model #1 crumbles into rubble again.

Model 2 Forms - Model #2 forms from rubble.

Model 2 Deconstructs - Model #2 crumbles into rubble again.

Model 3 Forms - Model #3 forms from rubble.

Model 3 Deconstructs - Model #3 crumbles into rubble again.

Model 4 Forms - The rubble forms into the RAF Hawk Aircraft which flys past Model #4.

Ending - ?????

____________________________________________________________________

We're not entirely sure about the ending, but one suggestion is that if the Southend Pier idea is last, the plane could lead out with smoke forming the word essex, follwing the flightplan below.

First Rayfire Tests

Using the Rayfire 3DS  Max plugin we have started to produce some tests in an attempt to understand how the program works. The next text will be to see how the plugin copes with a large building demolition.

BBC Panoramic Essex Images

I stumbled across a good resource of 360° panoramic images of Essex on the BBC website that may prove to be useful for some people.

An original idea?

To come up with a completely original idea, we are trying to think outside the box.

We thought; "Why make something in 3D, if someone could just go out and film it?"

So why not try and do something in MAX that would be impossible in real life?

Idea 4

Another Idea has been thought of:
Idea 4; The Essex Experience (incorporating ideas 2 & 3)

The typical boy racer stereotype is not always true, there are many young men who drive responsibly. This will be reflected in the beginning of this animation with a car going along a country road, with a close up on the driver quite obviously showing a young male. In the passenger seat would be a young female, who would later be revealed as the girlfriend/partner.

The animation would then consist of a montage of them visiting various places in Essex together, such as Southend, including Adventure Island (which could be simply represented as them being on a ride and looking at certain rides and attractions rather than creating the whole theme park), the Southend Pier (which could just be shown as a pan showing the train go by as they walk along lovingly hand in hand, with the seaside in the distance behind them), they could drive past the Basildon 'Hollywood' sign, they could visit Finchingfield having a lovely picnic in a field with the Windmill in the background; the possibilities are endless.

It could end with them driving off into a sunset perhaps, showing the beauty of Essex.

Initial Thoughts & Ideas

Following the briefing from Elli this morning, we have been struck with delight at the many sights and experiences Essex has to offer. We have started to conjure up ideas for our animation, and they are as follows:

Idea 1; Essex Cathedrals (Chelmsford & Brentwood) - Both historic landmarks, Chelmsford being the second smallest cathedral in England, would provide a great insight into not only the religious aspect of what Essex provides what with many places of worship throughout, but also the historic factor of a gorgeous stone buildings dating back up to 800 years (Chelmsford being rebuilt in the 15th/16th Century).

Idea 2; Southend (including Pier, being the longest in the world) could include the theme park Adventure Island. We could have great pan around moving rides and attractions, and along the pier with moving trains that operate along the 1.33 mile pier.

Idea 3; Finchingfield Town with their amazing Fireworks display - A typical small English town, Finchingfield (the most photographed town in England) provides amazing sights in agricultural views as well as being the perfect setting for an image to represent England. With cute little cottages and even a windmill, we could incorporate stunning structures into this 3d work.

Now to pick one!
